Thoughts From Guatemala
As most of you know my wife and I are in Guatemala, with my Son and family, to finalize the adoption of their third child from this country. If you want to find information on that subject the place to go is http://catiecomehome.blogspot.com/
I have had some interesting experiences, from a religion standpoint, while here. Yesterday, while doing some writing from this computer, which is located in the breakfast lounge (not what your thinking), a group of people came in and sat at a row of table behind me. It didn't take long for me to determine that this was a religious group, as they began their breakfast meeting with a prayer. Being about close enough to touch them, I heard their prayer, and became curious about their discussion. I tried not to evedrop, but could not help hearing much of the discussion. I tried to determine their affiliation (religiously), but am not sure about it. I guess the most interesting thing to me was their facts and figures about the work they were involved in. They had some discussion of baptisms, although I believe they thought salvation was by grace alone, but seemed to be very organized about their work, and what to do to improve the results. All the trappings of a organization, with headquarters and a board or something else making decisions seemed to be present. I though about sliding my chair back and asking some questions, but wisdom said this is not the time or place to do so. I doubt an interuption of this meeting would have been wise.
Earlier in the day my daughter (Kimberly) was in a discussion with a man who was a Seventh Day Adventist, here doing some review work for their church. Then tonight, as we had dinner with the foster Mother who cared for Catie, she explained that she was not Catholic (most here are), but a Christian. Kimberely told her that we were members of the church of Christ, and asked if she knew the preacher here. That discussion did not go far as none of us, with the exception of Kimberely speak a word of Spanish, and Kimberly is limited in what she can speak. (Continued - next blog)
