THE CANDIATES
"Righteousness exalteth a nation; But sin is a reproach to any people."
This past week MSNBC broadcast a sort of debate between the eight democratic candidates for president of the United States. The format was one which required them to answer specific questions within short time limits. I watched, with great interest, to hear answers to the many questions, as one of these people may become our next president.
For the most part there was very little debate. The candidates seemed to go out of their way not to disagree, but rather bash the existing president. It seemed they either all agreed, or were afraid to state their true positions. I Think I read somewhere that we are to "buy the truth and sell it not".
Motives aside, there were positions they all took that concerned me about their leadership. I have been looking in the bible for a statement they all made about "a woman's right to choose". There are many things said about women, wives and mothers, but I have yet to find the above statement. They, of course, are talking about the woman's right to choose abortion of their unborn child. Who decides if one has a right to choose to end life? Is it a woman or God? My search shows no mention of abortion in the bible, but does offer much information on things that are an abomination to God. "The way of the wicked is an abomination to Jehovah;but he loveth him that followeth after righteousness" (Prov. 15:9).
There was also advocation that homosexuality was an acceptable lifestyle. One candidate went so far as to say he was proud to have supported laws allowing civil unions. It is obvious that the gay rights people are winning the race on civil unions, and gay marriage. These laws could not exist without the support of the people WE vote into office. Should any christian support such as an "acceptable lifestyle"? God did not Think it was acceptable in Sodom, just another abomination (II Pet.2:6). It is an abomination to kings to commit wickedness; For the throne is established by righteousness (Prov. 16:12) We all know the end of things abominable to God (Rev. 21:8)
What are we to do when our leaders, and those who want to be leaders, profess and support such things? Are we to be just Democrats or Republicans who support our party? Let me suggest that your vote against sin is important if our nation is to stop its spiraling decline. Watching TV news and commenting to each other about the awful things that happen will not be enough. The scriptures say " If thou faint in the day of adversity,Thy strength is small" (Prov. 24:10). The day of adversity is here in our nation.
