LUKE 13:6-9
13:6 He spake also this parable; A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came and sought fruit thereon, and found none. 13:7 Then said he unto the dresser of his vineyard, Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut it down; why cumbereth it the ground? 13:8 And he answering said unto him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and dung it: 13:9 And if it bear fruit, well: and if not, then after that thou shalt cut it down. (KJV)
13:6 And he spake this parable; A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came seeking fruit thereon, and found none. 13:7 And he said unto the vinedresser, Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut it down; why doth it also cumber the ground? 13:8 And he answering saith unto him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and dung it: 13:9 and if it bear fruit thenceforth, well; but if not, thou shalt cut it down (ASV)
13:6
Then he told this parable: "A man had a fig tree, planted in his vineyard,
and he went to look for fruit on it, but did not find any. 13:7 So he said
to the man who took care of the vineyard, 'For three years now I've been coming
to look for fruit on this fig tree and haven't found any. Cut it down! Why
should it use up the soil?' 13:8" 'Sir,' the man replied, 'leave it alone
for one more year, and I'll dig around it and fertilize it. 13:9 If it bears
fruit next year, fine! If not, then cut it down.' " (NIV)
Matthew 13:47-50
13:47 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a net, that was cast into the sea, and gathered of every kind: 13:48 Which, when it was full, they drew to shore, and sat down, and gathered the good into vessels, but cast the bad away. 13:49 So shall it be at the end of the world: the angels shall come forth, and sever the wicked from among the just, 13:50 And shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth. (KJV)
13:47 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a net, that was cast into the sea, and gathered of every kind: 13:48 which, when it was filled, they drew up on the beach; and they sat down, and gathered the good into vessels, but the bad they cast away. 13:49 So shall it be in the end of the world: the angels shall come forth, and sever the wicked from among the righteous, 13:50 and shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth. (ASV)
13:47"Once again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was let down into the lake and caught all kinds of fish. 13:48When it was full, the fishermen pulled it up on the shore. Then they sat down and collected the good fish in baskets, but threw the bad away. 13:49This is how it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come and separate the wicked from the righteous 13:50and throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. (NIV)
The Friend at Midnight
Luke 11:5-10
11:5 And
he said unto them, Which of you shall have a friend, and shall go unto him
at midnight, and say unto him, Friend, lend me three loaves;11:6 For a friend
of mine in his journey is come to me, and I have nothing to set before him?11:7
And he from within shall answer and say, Trouble me not: the door is now shut,
and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give thee.11:8 I say
unto you, Though he will not rise and give him, because he is his friend,
yet because of his importunity he will rise and give him as many as he needeth.11:9
And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find;
knock, and it shall be opened unto you.11:10 For every one that asketh receiveth;
and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
(KJV)
11:5
And he said unto them, Which of you shall have a friend, and shall go unto
him at midnight, and say to him, Friend, lend me three loaves;11:6 for a friend
of mine is come to me from a journey, and I have nothing to set before him;
thee?11:7 and he from within shall answer and say, Trouble me not: the door
is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give thee?
11:8 I say unto you, Though he will not rise and give him because he is his
friend, yet because of his importunity he will arise and give him as many
as he needeth.11:9 And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek,
and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.11:10 For every
one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh
it shall be opened. (ASV)
11:5 Then he said to them, "Suppose one of you has a friend, and he goes to him at midnight and says, 'Friend, lend me three loaves of bread, 11:6 because a friend of mine on a journey has come to me, and I have nothing to set before him.' 11:7 "Then the one inside answers, 'Don't bother me. The door is already locked, and my children are with me in bed. I can't get up and give you anything.' 11:8 I tell you, though he will not get up and give him the bread because he is his friend, yet because of the man's boldness he will get up and give him as much as he needs. 11:9 "So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 11:10 For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened. (NIV)
Luke 10:30-37
10:30 And
Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and
fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and
departed, leaving him half dead. 10:31 And by chance there came down a certain
priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. 10:32
And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and
passed by on the other side.10:33 But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed,
came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him, 10:34 And
went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him
on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him. 10:35 And
on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the
host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more,
when I come again, I will repay thee. 10:36 Which now of these three, thinkest
thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves? 10:37 And he said,
He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise.
(KJV)
10:30
Jesus made answer and said, A certain man was going down from Jerusalem to
Jericho; and he fell among robbers, who both stripped him and beat him, and
departed, leaving him half dead. 10:31 And by chance a certain priest was
going down that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.
10:32 And in like manner a Levite also, when he came to the place, and saw
him, passed by on the other side. 10:33 But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed,
came where he was: and when he saw him, he was moved with compassion, 10:34
and came to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring on them oil and wine; and
he set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.10:35
And on the morrow he took out two shillings, and gave them to the host, and
said, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, I, when I come
back again, will repay thee. 10:36 Which of these three, thinkest thou, proved
neighbor unto him that fell among the robbers? 10:37 And he said, He that
showed mercy on him. And Jesus said unto him, Go, and do thou likewise. (ASV)
10:30 In reply Jesus said: "A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he fell into the hands of robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. 10:31 A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. 10:32 So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 10:33 But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. 10:34 He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, took him to an inn and took care of him. 10:35 The next day he took out two silver coins[1] and gave them to the innkeeper. 'Look after him,' he said, 'and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.' 10:36 "Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?" 10:37 The expert in the law replied, "The one who had mercy on him." Jesus told him, "Go and do likewise." (NIV)
John 10:11-18
10:11 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.10:12 But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep.10:13 The hireling fleeth, because he is an hireling, and careth not for the sheep.10:14 I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.10:15 As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep.10:16 And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.10:17 Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again.10:18 No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father. (KJV)
10:11 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd layeth down his life for the sheep. 10:12 He that is a hireling, and not a shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, beholdeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth, and the wolf snatcheth them, and scattereth them: 10:13 he fleeth because he is a hireling, and careth not for the sheep. 10:14 I am the good shepherd; and I know mine own, and mine own know me, 10:15 even as the Father knoweth me, and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep. 10:16 And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice: and they shall become one flock, one shepherd. 10:17 Therefore doth the Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I may take it again. 10:18 No one taketh it away from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment received I from my Father. (ASV)
10:11"I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. 10:12 The hired hand is not the shepherd who owns the sheep. So when he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep and runs away. Then the wolf attacks the flock and scatters it. 10:13 The man runs away because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep. 10:14 "I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me-- 10:15 just as the Father knows me and I know the Father--and I lay down my life for the sheep. 10:16 I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd. 10:17 The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life--only to take it up again. 10:18 No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This command I received from my Father." (NIV)
The
Pearl of Great Price
Matthew 13:45-46
13:45 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls: 13:46 Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it. (KJV)
13:45 Again,
the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is a merchant seeking goodly
pearls: 13:46 and having found one pearl of great price, he went and sold
all that he had, and bought it. (ASV)
45"Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. 46 When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it. (NIV)
14:15 And when one of them that sat at meat with him heard these things, he said unto him, Blessed is he that shall eat bread in the kingdom of God. 14:16 Then said he unto him, A certain man made a great supper, and bade many: 14:17 And sent his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, Come; for all things are now ready. 14:18 And they all with one consent began to make excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a piece of ground, and I must needs go and see it: I pray thee have me excused. 14:19 And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them: I pray thee have me excused. 14:20 And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come. 14:21 So that servant came, and shewed his lord these things. Then the master of the house being angry said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor, and the maimed, and the halt, and the blind. 14:22 And the servant said, Lord, it is done as thou hast commanded, and yet there is room. 14:23 And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled. 14:24 For I say unto you, That none of those men which were bidden shall taste of my supper. (KJV)
14:15
And when one of them that sat at meat with him heard these things, he said
unto him, Blessed is he that shall eat bread in the kingdom of God. 14:16
But he said unto him, A certain man made a great supper; and he bade many:
14:17 and he sent forth his servant at supper time to say to them that were
bidden, Come; for all things are now ready. 14:18 And they all with one consent
began to make excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a field, and
I must needs go out and see it; I pray thee have me excused. 14:19 And another
said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them; I pray thee
have me excused. 14:20 And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore
I cannot come. 14:21 And the servant came, and told his lord these things.
Then the master of the house being angry said to his servant, Go out quickly
into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor and maimed
and blind and lame. 14:22 And the servant said, Lord, what thou didst command
is done, and yet there is room. 14:23 And the lord said unto the servant,
Go out into the highways and hedges, and constrain them to come in, that my
house may be filled. 14:24 For I say unto you, that none of those men that
were bidden shall taste of my supper. (ASV)
14:15 When
one of those at the table with him heard this, he said to Jesus, "Blessed
is the man who will eat at the feast in the kingdom of God." 14:16 Jesus
replied: "A certain man was preparing a great banquet and invited many
guests. 14:17 At the time of the banquet he sent his servant to tell those
who had been invited, 'Come, for everything is now ready.' 14:18 "But
they all alike began to make excuses. The first said, 'I have just bought
a field, and I must go and see it. Please excuse me.' 14:19 "Another
said, 'I have just bought five yoke of oxen, and I'm on my way to try them
out. Please excuse me.' 14:20 "Still another said, 'I just got married,
so I can't come.' 14:21 "The servant came back and reported this to his
master. Then the owner of the house became angry and ordered his servant,
'Go out quickly into the streets and alleys of the town and bring in the poor,
the crippled, the blind and the lame.' 14:22 " 'Sir,' the servant said,
'what you ordered has been done, but there is still room.' 14:23 "Then
the master told his servant, 'Go out to the roads and country lanes and make
them come in, so that my house will be full. 24I tell you, not one of those
men who were invited will get a taste of my banquet.' " (NIV)
Matthew 13:44
13:44 The kingdom of heaven is like unto a treasure hidden in the field; which a man found, and hid; and in his joy he goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field. (KJV)
13:44 The kingdom of heaven is like unto a treasure hidden in the field; which a man found, and hid; and in his joy he goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field. (ASV)
13:44 "The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field. (NIV)
Matthew 13:52
13:52 Then said he unto them, Therefore every scribe which is instructed unto the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is an householder, which bringeth forth out of his treasure things new and old. (KJV)
13:52 And he said unto them, Therefore every scribe who hath been made a disciple to the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is a householder, who bringeth forth out of his treasure things new and old. (ASV)
13:52 He said to them, "Therefore every teacher of the law who has been instructed about the kingdom of heaven is like the owner of a house who brings out of his storeroom new treasures as well as old." (NIV)
Matthew 20:1-16
20:1 For the kingdom of
heaven is like unto a man that is an householder, which went out early in
the morning to hire labourers into his vineyard. 20:2 And when he had agreed
with the labourers for a penny a day, he sent them into his vineyard. 20:3
And he went out about the third hour, and saw others standing idle in the
marketplace, 20:4 And said unto them; Go ye also into the vineyard, and whatsoever
is right I will give you. And they went their way. 20:5 Again he went out
about the sixth and ninth hour, and did likewise. 20:6 And about the eleventh
hour he went out, and found others standing idle, and saith unto them, Why
stand ye here all the day idle? 20:7 They say unto him, Because no man hath
hired us. He saith unto them, Go ye also into the vineyard; and whatsoever
is right, that shall ye receive. 20:8 So when even was come, the lord of the
vineyard saith unto his steward, Call the labourers, and give them their hire,
beginning from the last unto the first. 20:9 And when they came that were
hired about the eleventh hour, they received every man a penny. 20:10 But
when the first came, they supposed that they should have received more; and
they likewise received every man a penny. 20:11 And when they had received
it, they murmured against the goodman of the house, 20:12 Saying, These last
have wrought but one hour, and thou hast made them equal unto us, which have
borne the burden and heat of the day. 20:13 But he answered one of them, and
said, Friend, I do thee no wrong: didst not thou agree with me for a penny?
20:14 Take that thine is, and go thy way: I will give unto this last, even
as unto thee. 20:15 Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own?
Is thine eye evil, because I am good? 20:16 So the last shall be first, and
the first last: for many be called, but few chosen. (KJV)
20:1 For the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that was a householder, who went out early in the morning to hire laborers into his vineyard. 20:2 And when he had agreed with the laborers for a shilling a day, he sent them into his vineyard. 20:3 And he went out about the third hour, and saw others standing in the marketplace idle; 20:4 and to them he said, Go ye also into the vineyard, and whatsoever is right I will give you. And they went their way. 20:5 Again he went out about the sixth and the ninth hour, and did likewise. 20:6 And about the eleventh hour he went out, and found others standing; and he saith unto them, Why stand ye here all the day idle? 20:7 They say unto him, Because no man hath hired us. He saith unto them, Go ye also into the vineyard. 20:8 And when even was come, the lord of the vineyard saith unto his steward, Call the laborers, and pay them their hire, beginning from the last unto the first. 20:9 And when they came that were hired about the eleventh hour, they received every man a shilling. 20:10 And when the first came, they supposed that they would receive more; and they likewise received every man a shilling. 20:11 And when they received it, they murmured against the householder, 20:12 saying, These last have spent but one hour, and thou hast made them equal unto us, who have borne the burden of the day and the scorching heat. 20:13 But he answered and said to one of them, Friend, I do thee no wrong: didst not thou agree with me for a shilling? 20:14 Take up that which is thine, and go thy way; it is my will to give unto this last, even as unto thee. 20:15 Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own? or is thine eye evil, because I am good? 20:16 So the last shall be first, and the first last. (ASV)
20:1 "For the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire men to work in his vineyard. 2 He agreed to pay them a denarius for the day and sent them into his vineyard. 3 "About the third hour he went out and saw others standing in the marketplace doing nothing. 4 He told them, 'You also go and work in my vineyard, and I will pay you whatever is right.' 5 So they went. "He went out again about the sixth hour and the ninth hour and did the same thing. 6 About the eleventh hour he went out and found still others standing around. He asked them, 'Why have you been standing here all day long doing nothing?' 7 "'Because no one has hired us,' they answered. "He said to them, 'You also go and work in my vineyard.' 8 "When evening came, the owner of the vineyard said to his foreman, 'Call the workers and pay them their wages, beginning with the last ones hired and going on to the first.' 9 "The workers who were hired about the eleventh hour came and each received a denarius. 10 So when those came who were hired first, they expected to receive more. But each one of them also received a denarius. 11 When they received it, they began to grumble against the landowner. the work and the heat of the day.' 13 "But he answered one of them, 'Friend, I am not being unfair to you. Didn't you agree to work for a denarius? 14 Take your pay and go. I want to give the man who was hired last the same as I gave you. 15 Don't I have the right to do what I want with my own money? Or are you envious because I am generous?' 16 "So the last will be first, and the first will be last." (NIV)
Matthew 22:2-14
22:2 The kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king, which made a marriage for his son, 22:3 And sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the wedding: and they would not come. 22:4 Again, he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them which are bidden, Behold, I have prepared my dinner: my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come unto the marriage. 22:5 But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his farm, another to his merchandise: 22:6 And the remnant took his servants, and entreated them spitefully, and slew them. 22:7 But when the king heard thereof, he was wroth: and he sent forth his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city. 22:8 Then saith he to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they which were bidden were not worthy. 22:9 Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage. 22:10 So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with guests. 22:11 And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment: 22:12 And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless. 22:13 Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 22:14 For many are called, but few are chosen. (KJV)
22:1 And Jesus answered and spake again in parables unto them, saying, 22:2 The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a certain king, who made a marriage feast for his son, 22:3 and sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the marriage feast: and they would not come. 22:4 Again he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them that are bidden, Behold, I have made ready my dinner; my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come to the marriage feast. 22:5 But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his own farm, another to his merchandise; 22:6 and the rest laid hold on his servants, and treated them shamefully, and killed them. 22:7 But the king was wroth; and he sent his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned their city. 22:8 Then saith he to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they that were bidden were not worthy. 22:9 Go ye therefore unto the partings of the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage feast. 22:10 And those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was filled with guests. 22:11 But when the king came in to behold the guests, he saw there a man who had not on a wedding-garment: 22:12 and he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding-garment? And he was speechless. 22:13 Then the king said to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and cast him out into the outer darkness; there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth. 22:14 For many are called, but few chosen. (ASV)
22:2 "The kingdom of heaven is like a king who prepared a wedding banquet for his son. 3 He sent his servants to those who had been invited to the banquet to tell them to come, but they refused to come. 4 "Then he sent some more servants and said, 'Tell those who have been invited that I have prepared my dinner: My oxen and fattened cattle have been butchered, and everything is ready. Come to the wedding banquet.' 5 "But they paid no attention and went off--one to his field, another to his business. 6 The rest seized his servants, mistreated them and killed them. 7 The king was enraged. He sent his army and destroyed those murderers and burned their city. 8 "Then he said to his servants, 'The wedding banquet is ready, but those I invited did not deserve to come. 9 Go to the street corners and invite to the banquet anyone you find.' 10 So the servants went out into the streets and gathered all the people they could find, both good and bad, and the wedding hall was filled with guests. 11 "But when the king came in to see the guests, he noticed a man there who was not wearing wedding clothes. 12 'Friend,' he asked, 'how did you get in here without wedding clothes?' The man was speechless. 13 "Then the king told the attendants, 'Tie him hand and foot, and throw him outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.' 14 "For many are invited, but few are chosen." The
Pharisee And The Tax Collector
Luke 18:9-14
18:9 And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others: 18:10 Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. 18:11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. 18:12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess. 18:13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. 18:14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted. (KJV)
18:9
And he spake also this parable unto certain who trusted in themselves that
they were righteous, and set all others at nought: 18:10 Two men went up into
the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. 18:11 The
Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am
not as the rest of men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this
publican. 18:12 I fast twice in the week; I give tithes of all that I get.
18:13 But the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his
eyes unto heaven, but smote his breast, saying, God, be thou merciful to me
a sinner. 18:14 I say unto you, This man went down to his house justified
rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be humbled;
but he that humbleth himself shall be exalted. (ASV)
18:9 To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everybody else, Jesus told this parable: 10 "Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11 The Pharisee stood up and prayed about himself: 'God, I thank you that I am not like other men--robbers, evildoers, adulterers--or even like this tax collector. 12 I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.' 13 "But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, 'God, have mercy on me, a sinner.' 14 "I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted." (NIV)
Luke 15:8-10
15:8 Either what woman having ten pieces of silver, if she lose one piece, doth not light a candle, and sweep the house, and seek diligently till she find it? 15:9 And when she hath found it, she calleth her friends and her neighbours together, saying, Rejoice with me; for I have found the piece which I had lost. 15:10 Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth. (KJV)
15:8 Or what woman having ten pieces of silver, if she lose one piece, doth not light a lamp, and sweep the house, and seek diligently until she find it? 15:9 And when she hath found it, she calleth together her friends and neighbors, saying, Rejoice with me, for I have found the piece which I had lost. 15:10 Even so, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth. (ASV)
15:8 "Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins and loses one. Does she not light a lamp, sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it? 9 And when she finds it, she calls her friends and neighbors together and says, 'Rejoice with me; I have found my lost coin.' 10 In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents." Luke 19:11-27
19:11 And as they heard these things, he added and spake a parable, because he was nigh to Jerusalem, and because they thought that the kingdom of God should immediately appear. 19:12 He said therefore, A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return. 19:13 And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come. 19:14 But his citizens hated him, and sent a message after him, saying, We will not have this man to reign over us. 19:15 And it came to pass, that when he was returned, having received the kingdom, then he commanded these servants to be called unto him, to whom he had given the money, that he might know how much every man had gained by trading. 19:16 Then came the first, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained ten pounds. 19:17 And he said unto him, Well, thou good servant: because thou hast been faithful in a very little, have thou authority over ten cities. 19:18 And the second came, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained five pounds. 19:19 And he said likewise to him, Be thou also over five cities. 19:20 And another came, saying, Lord, behold, here is thy pound, which I have kept laid up in a napkin: 19:21 For I feared thee, because thou art an austere man: thou takest up that thou layedst not down, and reapest that thou didst not sow. 19:22 And he saith unto him, Out of thine own mouth will I judge thee, thou wicked servant. Thou knewest that I was an austere man, taking up that I laid not down, and reaping that I did not sow: 19:23 Wherefore then gavest not thou my money into the bank, that at my coming I might have required mine own with usury? 19:24 And he said unto them that stood by, Take from him the pound, and give it to him that hath ten pounds. 19:25 (And they said unto him, Lord, he hath ten pounds.) 19:26 For I say unto you, That unto every one which hath shall be given; and from him that hath not, even that he hath shall be taken away from him. 19:27 But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me. (KJV)
19:11 And as they heard these things, he added and spake a parable, because he was nigh to Jerusalem, and because they supposed that the kingdom of God was immediately to appear. 19:12 He said therefore, A certain nobleman went into a far country, to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return. 19:13 And he called ten servants of his, and gave them ten pounds, and said unto them, Trade ye herewith till I come. 19:14 But his citizens hated him, and sent an ambassage after him, saying, We will not that this man reign over us. 19:15 And it came to pass, when he was come back again, having received the kingdom, that he commanded these servants, unto whom he had given the money, to be called to him, that he might know what they had gained by trading. 19:16 And the first came before him, saying, Lord, thy pound hath made ten pounds more. 19:17 And he said unto him, Well done, thou good servant: because thou wast found faithful in a very little, have thou authority over ten cities. 19:18 And the second came, saying, Thy pound, Lord, hath made five pounds. 19:19 And he said unto him also, Be thou also over five cities. 19:20 And another came, saying, Lord, behold, here is thy pound, which I kept laid up in a napkin: 19:21 for I feared thee, because thou art an austere man: thou takest up that which thou layedst not down, and reapest that which thou didst not sow. 19:22 He saith unto him, Out of thine own mouth will I judge thee, thou wicked servant. Thou knewest that I am an austere man, taking up that which I laid not down, and reaping that which I did not sow; 19:23 then wherefore gavest thou not my money into the bank, and I at my coming should have required it with interest? 19:24 And he said unto them that stood by, Take away from him the pound, and give it unto him that hath the ten pounds. 19:25 And they said unto him, Lord, he hath ten pounds. 19:26 I say unto you, that unto every one that hath shall be given; but from him that hath not, even that which he hath shall be taken away from him. 19:27 But these mine enemies, that would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me. (ASV)
19:11 While they were listening to this, he went on to tell them a parable, because he was near Jerusalem and the people thought that the kingdom of God was going to appear at once. 12 He said: "A man of noble birth went to a distant country to have himself appointed king and then to return. 13 So he called ten of his servants and gave them ten minas. 'Put this money to work,' he said, 'until I come back.' 14 "But his subjects hated him and sent a delegation after him to say, 'We don't want this man to be our king.' 15 "He was made king, however, and returned home. Then he sent for the servants to whom he had given the money, in order to find out what they had gained with it. 16 "The first one came and said, 'Sir, your mina has earned ten more.' 17 "'Well done, my good servant!' his master replied. 'Because you have been trustworthy in a very small matter, take charge of ten cities.' 18 "The second came and said, 'Sir, your mina has earned five more.' 19 "His master answered, 'You take charge of five cities.' 20 "Then another servant came and said, 'Sir, here is your mina; I have kept it laid away in a piece of cloth. 21 I was afraid of you, because you are a hard man. You take out what you did not put in and reap what you did not sow.' 22 "His master replied, 'I will judge you by your own words, you wicked servant! You knew, did you, that I am a hard man, taking out what I did not put in, and reaping what I did not sow? 23 Why then didn't you put my money on deposit, so that when I came back, I could have collected it with interest?' 24 "Then he said to those standing by, 'Take his mina away from him and give it to the one who has ten minas.' 25 "'Sir,' they said, 'he already has ten!' 26 "He replied, 'I tell you that to everyone who has, more will be given, but as for the one who has nothing, even what he has will be taken away. 27 But those enemies of mine who did not want me to be king over them--bring them here and kill them in front of me." (NIV)
Lk. 15:11-32
15:11 And he said, A certain man had two sons: 15:12 And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his living. 15:13 And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living. 15:14 And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land; and he began to be in want. 15:15 And he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country; and he sent him into his fields to feed swine. 15:16 And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat: and no man gave unto him. 15:17 And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father’s have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger! 15:18 I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee, 15:19 And am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants. 15:20 And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him. 15:21 And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son. 15:22 But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet: 15:23 And bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it; and let us eat, and be merry: 15:24 For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry. 15:25 Now his elder son was in the field: and as he came and drew nigh to the house, he heard musick and dancing. 15:26 And he called one of the servants, and asked what these things meant. 15:27 And he said unto him, Thy brother is come; and thy father hath killed the fatted calf, because he hath received him safe and sound. 15:28 And he was angry, and would not go in: therefore came his father out, and intreated him. 15:29 And he answering said to his father, Lo, these many years do I serve thee, neither transgressed I at any time thy commandment: and yet thou never gavest me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends: 15:30 But as soon as this thy son was come, which hath devoured thy living with harlots, thou hast killed for him the fatted calf. 15:31 And he said unto him, Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine. 15:32 It was meet that we should make merry, and be glad: for this thy brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is found. (KJV)

15:11 Jesus continued: "There was a man who had two sons. 12 The younger one said to his father, 'Father, give me my share of the estate.' So he divided his property between them. 13 "Not long after that, the younger son got together all he had, set off for a distant country and there squandered his wealth in wild living. 14 After he had spent everything, there was a severe famine in that whole country, and he began to be in need. 15 So he went and hired himself out to a citizen of that country, who sent him to his fields to feed pigs. 16 He longed to fill his stomach with the pods that the pigs were eating, but no one gave him anything. 17 "When he came to his senses, he said, 'How many of my father's hired men have food to spare, and here I am starving to death! 18 I will set out and go back to my father and say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. 19 I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me like one of your hired men.' 20 So he got up and went to his father. "But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him. 21 "The son said to him, 'Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.' 22 "But the father said to his servants, 'Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. 23 Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let's have a feast and celebrate. 24 For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.' So they began to celebrate. 25 "Meanwhile, the older son was in the field. When he came near the house, he heard music and dancing. 26 So he called one of the servants and asked him what was going on. 27 'Your brother has come,' he replied, 'and your father has killed the fattened calf because he has him back safe and sound.' 28 "The older brother became angry and refused to go in. So his father went out and pleaded with him. 29 But he answered his father, 'Look! All these years I've been slaving for you and never disobeyed your orders. Yet you never gave me even a young goat so I could celebrate with my friends. 30 But when this son of yours who has squandered your property with prostitutes comes home, you kill the fattened calf for him!' 31 "'My son,' the father said, 'you are always with me, and everything I have is yours. 32 But we had to celebrate and be glad, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found." Lk. 12:16-21
12:16 And he spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully: 12:17 And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits? 12:18 And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods. 12:19 And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. 12:20 But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided? 12:21 So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God. (KJV)
12:16 And he spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully: 12:17 and he reasoned within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have not where to bestow my fruits? 12:18 And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my grain and my goods. 12:19 And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, be merry. 12:20 But God said unto him, Thou foolish one, this night is thy soul required of thee; and the things which thou hast prepared, whose shall they be? 12:21 So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God. (ASV)
12:16 And he told them this parable: "The ground of a certain rich man produced a good crop.17 He thought to himself, 'What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.' 18 "Then he said, 'This is what I'll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. 19 And I'll say to myself, "You have plenty of good things laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry."' 20 "But God said to him, 'You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?' 21 "This is how it will be with anyone who stores up things for himself but is not rich toward God." (NIV)
The Mustard Seed
13:18 Then said he, Unto what is the kingdom of God like? and whereunto shall I resemble it? 13:19 It is like a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and cast into his garden; and it grew, and waxed a great tree; and the fowls of the air lodged in the branches of it. (KJV)
13:18 He said therefore, Unto what is the kingdom of God like? and whereunto shall I liken it? 13:19 It is like unto a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and cast into his own garden; and it grew, and became a tree; and the birds of the heaven lodged in the branches thereof. (ASV)
13:18 Then Jesus asked, "What is the kingdom of God like? What shall I compare it to? 19 It is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his garden. It grew and became a tree, and the birds of the air perched in its branches."(NIV)

25:31
When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with
him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory: 25:32 And before him
shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another,
as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats: 25:33 And he shall set the
sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left. 25:34 Then shall the King
say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the
kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: 25:35 For I was
an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was
a stranger, and ye took me in: 25:36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick,
and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. 25:37 Then shall
the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed
thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? 25:38 When saw we thee a stranger,
and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? 25:39 Or when saw we thee sick,
or in prison, and came unto thee? 25:40 And the King shall answer and say
unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of
the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me. 25:41 Then shall
he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting
fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: 25:42 For I was an hungred, and
ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink: 25:43 I was a
stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in
prison, and ye visited me not. 25:44 Then shall they also answer him, saying,
Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or
sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee? 25:45 Then shall he answer
them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the
least of these, ye did it not to me. 25:46 And these shall go away into everlasting
punishment: but the righteous into life eternal. (KJV)
25:31 But when the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the angels with him, then shall he sit on the throne of his glory: 25:32 and before him shall be gathered all the nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as the shepherd separateth the sheep from the goats; 25:33 and he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left. 25:34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: 25:35 for I was hungry, and ye gave me to eat; I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink; I was a stranger, and ye took me in; 25:36 naked, and ye clothed me; I was sick, and ye visited me; I was in prison, and ye came unto me. 25:37 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee hungry, and fed thee? or athirst, and gave thee drink? 25:38 And when saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? 25:39 And when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? 25:40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it unto one of these my brethren, even these least, ye did it unto me. 25:41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into the eternal fire which is prepared for the devil and his angels: 25:42 for I was hungry, and ye did not give me to eat; I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink; 25:43 I was a stranger, and ye took me not in; naked, and ye clothed me not; sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not. 25:44 Then shall they also answer, saying, Lord, when saw we thee hungry, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee? 25:45 Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not unto one of these least, ye did it not unto me. 25:46 And these shall go away into eternal punishment: but the righteous into eternal life. 25:31 "When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his throne in heavenly glory. 32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33 He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left. 34 "Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.' 37 "Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?' 40 "The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.' 41 "Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.' 44 "They also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?' 45 "He will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.' 46 "Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life." Matt. 13:24-30,36-43
13:24
Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened
unto a man which sowed good seed in his field: 13:25 But while men slept,
his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way. 13:26 But
when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares
also. 13:27 So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir,
didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? from whence then hath it tares?
13:28 He said unto them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him,
Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up? 13:29 But he said, Nay; lest
while ye gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them. 13:30 Let
both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say
to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles
to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn. 36 Then Jesus sent the multitude
away, and went into the house: and his disciples came unto him, saying, Declare
unto us the parable of the tares of the field. 13:37 He answered and said
unto them, He that soweth the good seed is the Son of man; 13:38 The field
is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares
are the children of the wicked one; 13:39 The enemy that sowed them is the
devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels.
13:40 As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall
it be in the end of this world. 13:41 The Son of man shall send forth his
angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and
them which do iniquity; 13:42 And shall cast them into a furnace of fire:
there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth. 13:43 Then shall the righteous
shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who hath ears to hear,
let him hear. (KJV)
13:24 Another parable set he before them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man that sowed good seed in his field: 13:25 but while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares also among the wheat, and went away. 13:26 But when the blade sprang up and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also. 13:27 And the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst thou not sow good seed in thy field? whence then hath it tares? 13:28 And he said unto them, An enemy hath done this. And the servants say unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up? 13:29 But he saith, Nay; lest haply while ye gather up the tares, ye root up the wheat with them. 13:30 Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of the harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather up first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them; but gather the wheat into my barn. 13:36 Then he left the multitudes, and went into the house: and his disciples came unto him, saying, Explain unto us the parable of the tares of the field. 13:37 And he answered and said, He that soweth the good seed is the Son of man; 13:38 and the field is the world; and the good seed, these are the sons of the kingdom; and the tares are the sons of the evil one; 13:39 and the enemy that sowed them is the devil: and the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are angels. 13:40 As therefore the tares are gathered up and burned with fire; so shall it be in the end of the world. 13:41 The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that cause stumbling, and them that do iniquity, 13:42 and shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth. 13:43 Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He that hath ears, let him hear. (ASV)
24 Jesus told them another parable: "The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field. 25 But while everyone was sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and went away. 26 When the wheat sprouted and formed heads, then the weeds also appeared. 27 "The owner's servants came to him and said, 'Sir, didn't you sow good seed in your field? Where then did the weeds come from?' 28 "'An enemy did this,' he replied. "The servants asked him, 'Do you want us to go and pull them up?' 29 "'No,' he answered, 'because while you are pulling the weeds, you may root up the wheat with them. 30 Let both grow together until the harvest. At that time I will tell the harvesters: First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles to be burned; then gather the wheat and bring it into my barn.'" 36 Then he left the crowd and went into the house. His disciples came to him and said, "Explain to us the parable of the weeds in the field." 37 He answered, "The one who sowed the good seed is the Son of Man. 38 The field is the world, and the good seed stands for the sons of the kingdom. The weeds are the sons of the evil one, 39 and the enemy who sows them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvesters are angels. 40 "As the weeds are pulled up and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of the age. 41 The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will weed out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil. 42 They will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 43 Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear. (NIV)
25:14
For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called
his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods. 25:15 And unto one he
gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according
to his several ability; and straightway took his journey. 25:16 Then he that
had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them
other five talents. 25:17 And likewise he that had received two, he also gained
other two. 25:18 But he that had received one went and digged in the earth,
and hid his lord’s money. 25:19 After a long time the lord of those servants
cometh, and reckoneth with them. 25:20 And so he that had received five talents
came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me
five talents: behold, I have gained beside them five talents more. 25:21 His
lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been
faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter
thou into the joy of thy lord. 25:22 He also that had received two talents
came and said, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me two talents: behold, I have
gained two other talents beside them. 25:23 His lord said unto him, Well done,
good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will
make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord. 25:24
Then he which had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee
that thou art an hard man, reaping where thou hast not sown, and gathering
where thou hast not strawed: 25:25 And I was afraid, and went and hid thy
talent in the earth: lo, there thou hast that is thine. 25:26 His lord answered
and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap
where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strawed: 25:27 Thou oughtest
therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I
should have received mine own with usury. 25:28 Take therefore the talent
from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents. 25:29 For unto every
one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that
hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath. 25:30 And cast ye the
unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing
of teeth. (KJV)
25:14 For it is as when a man, going into another country, called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods. 25:15 And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one; to each according to his several ability; and he went on his journey. 25:16 Straightway he that received the five talents went and traded with them, and made other five talents. 25:17 In like manner he also that received the two gained other two. 25:18 But he that received the one went away and digged in the earth, and hid his lord’s money. 25:19 Now after a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and maketh a reckoning with them. 25:20 And he that received the five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents: lo, I have gained other five talents. 25:21 His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will set thee over many things; enter thou into the joy of thy lord. 25:22 And he also that received the two talents came and said, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me two talents: lo, I have gained other two talents. 25:23 His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will set thee over many things; enter thou into the joy of thy lord. 25:24 And he also that had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art a hard man, reaping where thou didst not sow, and gathering where thou didst not scatter; 25:25 and I was afraid, and went away and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, thou hast thine own. 25:26 But his lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I did not scatter; 25:27 thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the bankers, and at my coming I should have received back mine own with interest. 25:28 Take ye away therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him that hath the ten talents. 25:29 For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not, even that which he hath shall be taken away. 25:30 And cast ye out the unprofitable servant into the outer darkness: there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth. (ASV)
25:14 "Again, it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his property to them. 15 To one he gave five talents of money, to another two talents, and to another one talent, each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey. 16 The man who had received the five talents went at once and put his money to work and gained five more. 17 So also, the one with the two talents gained two more. 18 But the man who had received the one talent went off, dug a hole in the ground and hid his master's money. 19 "After a long time the master of those servants returned and settled accounts with them. 20 The man who had received the five talents brought the other five. 'Master,' he said, 'you entrusted me with five talents. See, I have gained five more.' 21 "His master replied, 'Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!' 22 "The man with the two talents also came. 'Master,' he said, 'you entrusted me with two talents; see, I have gained two more.' 23 "His master replied, 'Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!' 24 "Then the man who had received the one talent came. 'Master,' he said, 'I knew that you are a hard man, harvesting where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered seed. 25 So I was afraid and went out and hid your talent in the ground. See, here is what belongs to you.' 26 "His master replied, 'You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed? 27 Well then, you should have put my money on deposit with the bankers, so that when I returned I would have received it back with interest. 28 "'Take the talent from him and give it to the one who has the ten talents. 29 For everyone who has will be given more, and he will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him. 30 And throw that worthless servant outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.' (NIV)
Matt. 25: 1-13
25:1
Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their
lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. 25:2 And five of them were wise,
and five were foolish. 25:3 They that were foolish took their lamps, and took
no oil with them: 25:4 But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.
25:5 While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept. 25:6 And
at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out
to meet him. 25:7 Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps. 25:8
And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are
gone out. 25:9 But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough
for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.
25:10 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were
ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut. 25:11 Afterward
came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. 25:12 But he
answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not. 25:13 Watch therefore,
for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh. (KJV)

25:1 "At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. 2 Five of them were foolish and five were wise. 3 The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them. 4 The wise, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps. 5 The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep. 6 "At midnight the cry rang out: 'Here's the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!' 7 "Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. 8 The foolish ones said to the wise, 'Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.' 9 "'No,' they replied, 'there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.' 10 "But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut. 11 "Later the others also came. 'Sir! Sir!' they said. 'Open the door for us!' 12 "But he replied, 'I tell you the truth, I don't know you.' 13 "Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour. (NIV)
Lk.7:41-43
7:41 There was a certain creditor which had two debtors: the one owed five hundred pence, and the other fifty. 7:42 And when they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them both. Tell me therefore, which of them will love him most? 7:43 Simon answered and said, I suppose that he, to whom he forgave most. And he said unto him, Thou hast rightly judged. (KJV)
7:41 A certain lender had two debtors: the one owed five hundred shillings, and the other fifty. 7:42 When they had not wherewith to pay, he forgave them both. Which of them therefore will love him most? 7:43 Simon answered and said, He, I suppose, to whom he forgave the most. And he said unto him, Thou hast rightly judged. (ASV)
7:41 "Two men owed money to a certain moneylender. One owed him five hundred denarii, and the other fifty. 42 Neither of them had the money to pay him back, so he canceled the debts of both. Now which of them will love him more?" 43 Simon replied, "I suppose the one who had the bigger debt canceled." "You have judged correctly," Jesus said. (NIV)

But what think ye? A certain man had two sons; and he came to the first, and
said, Son, go work to day in my vineyard. 21:29 He answered and said, I will
not: but afterward he repented, and went. 21:30 And he came to the second,
and said likewise. And he answered and said, I go, sir: and went not. 21:31
Whether of them twain did the will of his father? They say unto him, The first.
Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That the publicans and the harlots
go into the kingdom of God before you. 21:32 For John came unto you in the
way of righteousness, and ye believed him not: but the publicans and the harlots
believed him: and ye, when ye had seen it, repented not afterward, that ye
might believe him. (KJV)
21:28 But what think ye? A man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, Son, go work to-day in the vineyard. 21:29 And he answered and said, I will not: but afterward he repented himself, and went. 21:30 And he came to the second, and said likewise. And he answered and said, I go, sir: and went not. 21:31 Which of the two did the will of his father? They say, The first. 21:28 "What do you think? There was a man who had two sons. He went to the first and said, 'Son, go and work today in the vineyard.' 29 "'I will not,' he answered, but later he changed his mind and went. 30 "Then the father went to the other son and said the same thing. He answered, 'I will, sir,' but he did not go. 31 "Which of the two did what his father wanted?" "The first," they answered. Jesus said to them, "I tell you the truth, the tax collectors and the prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God ahead of you. 32 For John came to you to show you the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes did. And even after you saw this, you did not repent and believe him. (NIV)
The
Persistent Widow
Lk. 18:1-8
18:1 And
he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and
not to faint; 18:2 Saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God,
neither regarded man: 18:3 And there was a widow in that city; and she came
unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary. 18:4 And he would not for a
while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard
man; 18:5 Yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by
her continual coming she weary me. 18:6 And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust
judge saith. 18:7 And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and
night unto him, though he bear long with them? 18:8 I tell you that he will
avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find
faith on the earth? (KJV)
18:1 And he spake a parable unto them to the end that they ought always to pray, and not to faint; 18:2 saying, There was in a city a judge, who feared not God, and regarded not man: 18:3 and there was a widow in that city; and she came oft unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary. 18:4 And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man; 18:5 yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest she wear me out by her continual coming. 18:6 And the Lord said, Hear what the unrighteous judge saith. 18:7 And shall not God avenge his elect, that cry to him day and night, and yet he is longsuffering over them? 18:8 I say unto you, that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth? (ASV)
18:1 Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up. 2 He said: "In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor cared about men 3 And there was a widow in that town who kept coming to him with the plea, 'Grant me justice against my adversary.' 4 "For some time he refused. But finally he said to himself, 'Even though I don't fear God or care about men, 5 yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will see that she gets justice, so that she won't eventually wear me out with her coming!' 6 And the Lord said, "Listen to what the unjust judge says. 7 And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? 8 I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?" (NIV)
Lk. 16:1-12
16:1
And he said also unto his disciples, There was a certain rich man, which had
a steward; and the same was accused unto him that he had wasted his goods.
16:2 And he called him, and said unto him, How is it that I hear this of thee?
give an account of thy stewardship; for thou mayest be no longer steward.
16:3 Then the steward said within himself, What shall I do? for my lord taketh
away from me the stewardship: I cannot dig; to beg I am ashamed. 16:4 I am
resolved what to do, that, when I am put out of the stewardship, they may
receive me into their houses. 16:5 So he called every one of his lord’s debtors
unto him, and said unto the first, How much owest thou unto my lord? 16:6
And he said, An hundred measures of oil. And he said unto him, Take thy bill,
and sit down quickly, and write fifty. 16:7 Then said he to another, And how
much owest thou? And he said, An hundred measures of wheat. And he said unto
him, Take thy bill, and write fourscore. 16:8 And the lord commended the unjust
steward, because he had done wisely: for the children of this world are in
their generation wiser than the children of light. 16:9 And I say unto you,
Make to yourselves friends of the mammon of unrighteousness; that, when ye
fail, they may receive you into everlasting habitations. 16:10 He that is
faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust
in the least is unjust also in much. 16:11 If therefore ye have not been faithful
in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches?
16:12 And if ye have not been faithful in that which is another man’s, who
shall give you that which is your own? (KJV)
16:1 And he said also unto the disciples, There was a certain rich man, who had a steward; and the same was accused unto him that he was wasting his goods. 16:2 And he called him, and said unto him, What is this that I hear of thee? render the account of thy stewardship; for thou canst be no longer steward. 16:3 And the steward said within himself, What shall I do, seeing that my lord taketh away the stewardship from me? I have not strength to dig; to beg I am ashamed. 16:4 I am resolved what to do, that, when I am put out of the stewardship, they may receive me into their houses. 16:5 And calling to him each one of his lord’s debtors, he said to the first, How much owest thou unto my lord? 16:6 And he said, A hundred measures of oil. And he said unto him, Take thy bond, and sit down quickly and write fifty. 16:7 Then said he to another, And how much owest thou? And he said, A hundred measures of wheat. He saith unto him, Take thy bond, and write fourscore. 16:8 And his lord commended the unrighteous steward because he had done wisely: for the sons of this world are for their own generation wiser than the sons of the light. 16:9 And I say unto you, Make to yourselves friends by means of the mammon of unrighteousness; that, when it shall fail, they may receive you into the eternal tabernacles. 16:10 He that is faithful in a very little is faithful also in much: and he that is unrighteous in a very little is unrighteous also in much. 16:11 If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches? 16:12 And if ye have not been faithful in that which is another’s, who will give you that which is your own? (ASV)
16:1 Jesus told his disciples: "There was a rich man whose manager was accused of wasting his possessions. 2 So he called him in and asked him, 'What is this I hear about you? Give an account of your management, because you cannot be manager any longer.' 3 "The manager said to himself, 'What shall I do now? My master is taking away my job. I'm not strong enough to dig, and I'm ashamed to beg-- 4 I know what I'll do so that, when I lose my job here, people will welcome me into their houses.' 5 "So he called in each one of his master's debtors. He asked the first, 'How much do you owe my master?' 6 "'Eight hundred gallons of olive oil,' he replied. "The manager told him, 'Take your bill, sit down quickly, and make it four hundred.' 7 "Then he asked the second, 'And how much do you owe?' "'A thousand bushels of wheat,' he replied. "He told him, 'Take your bill and make it eight hundred.' 8 "The master commended the dishonest manager because he had acted shrewdly. For the people of this world are more shrewd in dealing with their own kind than are the people of the light. 9 I tell you, use worldly wealth to gain friends for yourselves, so that when it is gone, you will be welcomed into eternal dwellings. 10 "Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much. 11 So if you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches? 12 And if you have not been trustworthy with someone else's property, who will give you property of your own? (NIV)
Mt. 18:23-35
18:23 Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened unto a certain king, which would take account of his servants. 24 And when he had begun to reckon, one was brought unto him, which owed him ten thousand talents. 25 But forasmuch as he had not to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife, and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made.26 The servant therefore fell down, and worshipped him, saying, Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all. 27 Then the lord of that servant was moved with compassion, and loosed him, and forgave him the debt. 28 But the same servant went out, and found one of his fellowservants, which owed him an hundred pence: and he laid hands on him, and took him by the throat, saying, Pay me that thou owest. 29 And his fellowservant fell down at his feet, and besought him, saying, Have patience with me, and I will pay thee all. 30 And he would not: but went and cast him into prison, till he should pay the debt. 31 So when his fellowservants saw what was done, they were very sorry, and came and told unto their lord all that was done. 32 Then his lord, after that he had called him, said unto him, O thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou desiredst me: 33 Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellowservant, even as I had pity on thee? 34 And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him. 35 So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses. (KJV)
18:23 Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened unto a certain king, who would make a reckoning with his servants. 18:24 And when he had begun to reckon, one was brought unto him, that owed him ten thousand talents. 18:25 But forasmuch as he had not wherewith to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife, and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made. 18:26 The servant therefore fell down and worshipped him, saying, Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all. 18:27 And the lord of that servant, being moved with compassion, released him, and forgave him the debt. 18:28 But that servant went out, and found one of his fellow-servants, who owed him a hundred shillings: and he laid hold on him, and took him by the throat, saying, Pay what thou owest. 18:29 So his fellow-servant fell down and besought him, saying, Have patience with me, and I will pay thee. 18:30 And he would not: but went and cast him into prison, till he should pay that which was due. 18:31 So when his fellow-servants saw what was done, they were exceeding sorry, and came and told unto their lord all that was done. 18:32 Then his lord called him unto him, and saith to him, Thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou besoughtest me: 18:33 shouldest not thou also have had mercy on thy fellow-servant, even as I had mercy on thee? 18:34 And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due. 18:35 So shall also my heavenly Father do unto you, if ye forgive not every one his brother from your hearts. (ASV)
18:23 "Therefore,
the kingdom of heaven is like a king who wanted to settle accounts with his
servants. 24 As he began the settlement, a man who owed him ten thousand talents
was brought to him. 25 Since he was not able to pay, the master ordered that
he and his wife and his children and all that he had be sold to repay the
debt. 26 "The servant fell on his knees before him. 'Be patient with
me,' he begged, 'and I will pay back everything.' 27 The servant's master
took pity on him, canceled the debt and let him go. 28 "But when that
servant went out, he found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred
denarii. He grabbed him and began to choke him. 'Pay back what you owe me!'
he demanded. 29 "His fellow servant fell to his knees and begged him,
'Be patient with me, and I will pay you back.' 30 "But he refused. Instead,
he went off and had the man thrown into prison until he could pay the debt.
31 When the other servants saw what had happened, they were greatly distressed
and went and told their master everything that had happened. 32 "Then
the master called the servant in. 'You wicked servant,' he said, 'I canceled
all that debt of yours because you begged me to. 33 Shouldn't you have had
mercy on your fellow servant just as I had on you?' 34 In anger his master
turned him over to the jailers to be tortured, until he should pay back all
he owed. 35 "This is how my heavenly Father will treat each of you unless
you forgive your brother from your heart." (NIV)
Lk.17:7-10
17:7 But which of you, having a servant plowing or feeding cattle, will say unto him by and by, when he is come from the field, Go and sit down to meat? 8 And will not rather say unto him, Make ready wherewith I may sup, and gird thyself, and serve me, till I have eaten and drunken; and afterward thou shalt eat and drink? 9 Doth he thank that servant because he did the things that were commanded him? I trow not.10 So likewise ye, when ye shall have done all those things which are commanded you, say, We are unprofitable servants: we have done that which was our duty to do. (KJV)
17:7 But who is there of you, having a servant plowing or keeping sheep, that will say unto him, when he is come in from the field, Come straightway and sit down to meat; 17:8 and will not rather say unto him, Make ready wherewith I may sup, and gird thyself, and serve me, till I have eaten and drunken; and afterward thou shalt eat and drink? 17:9 Doth he thank the servant because he did the things that were commanded? 17:10 Even so ye also, when ye shall have done all the things that are commanded you, say, We are unprofitable servants; we have done that which it was our duty to do. (ASV)
17:7 "Suppose one of you had a servant plowing or looking after the sheep. Would he say to the servant when he comes in from the field, 'Come along now and sit down to eat'? 8 Would he not rather say, 'Prepare my supper, get yourself ready and wait on me while I eat and drink; after that you may eat and drink'? 9 Would he thank the servant because he did what he was told to do? 10 So you also, when you have done everything you were told to do, should say, 'We are unworthy servants; we have only done our duty." (NIV)
Mt. 22:1-14
22:1 The kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king, which made a marriage for his son, 3 And sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the wedding: and they would not come. 4 Again, he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them which are bidden, Behold, I have prepared my dinner: my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come unto the marriage. 5 But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his farm, another to his merchandise: 6 And the remnant took his servants, and entreated them spitefully, and slew them. 7 But when the king heard thereof, he was wroth: and he sent forth his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city. 8 Then saith he to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they which were bidden were not worthy. 9 Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage. 10 So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with guests. 11 And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment: 12 And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless. 13 Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 14 For many are called, but few are chosen. 15 Then went the Pharisees, and took counsel how they might entangle him in his talk.
(ASV)
22:1 Jesus spoke to them again in parables, saying: 2 "The kingdom of heaven is like a king who prepared a wedding banquet for his son. 13 "Then the king told the attendants, 'Tie him hand and foot, and throw him outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.' 14 "For many are invited, but few are chosen." (NIV)
Lk. 12: 42-48
12:42 And the Lord said, Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his lord shall make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of meat in due season? 43 Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing. 44 Of a truth I say unto you, that he will make him ruler over all that he hath. 45 But and if that servant say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; and shall begin to beat the menservants and maidens, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken; 46 The lord of that servant will come in a day when he looketh not for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in sunder, and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers. 47 And that servant, which knew his lord's will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. 48 But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more. (KJV)
12:42 And the Lord said, Who then is the faithful and wise steward, whom his lord shall set over his household, to give them their portion of food in due season? 12:43 Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing. 12:44 Of a truth I say unto you, that he will set him over all that he hath. 12:45 But if that servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; and shall begin to beat the menservants and the maidservants, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken; 12:46 the lord of that servant shall come in a day when he expecteth not, and in an hour when he knoweth not, and shall cut him asunder, and appoint his portion with the unfaithful. 12:47 And that servant, who knew his lord’s will, and made not ready, nor did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes; 12:48 but he that knew not, and did things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. And to whomsoever much is given, of him shall much be required: and to whom they commit much, of him will they ask the more. (ASV)
42 The Lord answered, "Who then is the faithful and wise manager, whom the master puts in charge of his servants to give them their food allowance at the proper time? 43 It will be good for that servant whom the master finds doing so when he returns. 44 I tell you the truth, he will put him in charge of all his possessions. 45 But suppose the servant says to himself, 'My master is taking a long time in coming,' and he then begins to beat the menservants and maidservants and to eat and drink and get drunk. 46 The master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he is not aware of. He will cut him to pieces and assign him a place with the unbelievers. 47 "That servant who knows his master's will and does not get ready or does not do what his master wants will be beaten with many blows. 48 But the one who does not know and does things deserving punishment will be beaten with few blows. From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked. (NIV)
Lk. 6: 47-49
6:47 Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will show you to whom he is like: 48 He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock. 49 But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great. (KJV)
6:47 I will show you what he is like who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice. 48 He is like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. 49 But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete." (NIV)
Mt. 13:33
13:33 Another parable spake he unto them; The kingdom of heaven is like unto leaven, which a woman took, and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened. (KJV)
13:33 Another parable spake he unto them; The kingdom of heaven is like unto leaven, which a woman took, and hid in three measures of meal, till it was all leavened. (ASV)
13:33 He told them still another parable: "The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed into a large amount of flour until it worked all through the dough." (NIV)
Lk. 15: 3-7
3 And he spake this parable unto them, saying, 4 What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it? 5 And when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders, rejoicing. 6 And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and neighbours, saying unto them, Rejoice with me; for I have found my sheep which was lost. 7 I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance. (KJV)
15:3 And he spake unto them this parable, saying, 15:4 What man of you, having a hundred sheep, and having lost one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it? 15:5 And when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders, rejoicing. 15:6 And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and his neighbors, saying unto them, Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost. 15:7 I say unto you, that even so there shall be joy in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine righteous persons, who need no repentance. (ASV)
15:3 Then Jesus told them this parable: 4 "Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Does he not leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? 5 And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders 6 and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, 'Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.' 7 I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent. (NIV)
Mk. 2:21-22
2:21 No
man also seweth a piece of new cloth on an old garment: else the new piece
that filled it up taketh away from the old, and the rent is made worse.
22 And no man putteth new wine into old bottles: else the new wine doth burst
the bottles, and the wine is spilled, and the bottles will be marred: but
new wine must be put into new bottles. (KJV)
2:21 No man seweth a piece of undressed cloth on an old garment: else that which should fill it up taketh from it, the new from the old, and a worse rent is made. 2:22 And no man putteth new wine into old wineskins; else the wine will burst the skins, and the wine perisheth, and the skins: but they put new wine into fresh wine-skins. (ASV)
2:21 "No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment. If he does, the new piece will pull away from the old, making the tear worse. 22 And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. If he does, the wine will burst the skins, and both the wine and the wineskins will be ruined. No, he pours new wine into new wineskins." (NIV)

Lk. 21:29-32
29 And he spake to them a parable; Behold the fig tree, and all the trees; 30 When they now shoot forth, ye see and know of your own selves that summer is now nigh at hand. 31 So likewise ye, when ye see these things come to pass, know ye that the kingdom of God is nigh at hand. 32 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away, till all be fulfilled. (KJV)
21:29 And he spake to them a parable: Behold the fig tree, and all the trees: 21:30 when they now shoot forth, ye see it and know of your own selves that the summer is now nigh. 21:31 Even so ye also, when ye see these things coming to pass, know ye that the kingdom of God is nigh. 21:32 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away, till all things be accomplished. (ASV)
29 He told them this parable: "Look at the fig tree and all the trees. 30 When they sprout leaves, you can see for yourselves and know that summer is near. 31 Even so, when you see these things happening, you know that the kingdom of God is near. 32 "I tell you the truth, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened. (NIV)
Mt. 13:3-8, 18-23,
3 And he spake many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow; And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up:5 Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth: 6 And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away. 7 And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up, and choked them: 8 But other fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold.
18 Hear ye therefore the parable of the sower. 19 When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side. 20 But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and anon with joy receiveth it; 21 Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended. 22 He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful. 23 But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. (KJV)
13:3 And he spake to them many things in parables, saying, Behold, the sower went forth to sow; 13:4 and as he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the birds came and devoured them: 13:5 and others fell upon the rocky places, where they had not much earth: and straightway they sprang up, because they had no deepness of earth: 13:6 and when the sun was risen, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away. 13:7 And others fell upon the thorns; and the thorns grew up and choked them: 13:8 and others fell upon the good ground, and yielded fruit, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.
13:18 Hear then ye the parable of the sower. 13:19 When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the evil one, and snatcheth away that which hath been sown in his heart. This is he that was sown by the way side. 13:20 And he that was sown upon the rocky places, this is he that heareth the word, and straightway with joy receiveth it; 13:21 yet hath he not root in himself, but endureth for a while; and when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, straightway he stumbleth. 13:22 And he that was sown among the thorns, this is he that heareth the word; and the care of the world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful. 13:23 And he that was sown upon the good ground, this is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; who verily beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. (ASV)
13:3
Then he told them many things in parables, saying: "A farmer went out
to sow his seed. 4 As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path,
and the birds came and ate it up. 5 Some fell on rocky places, where it did
not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. 6
But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because
they had no root. 7 Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked
the plants. 8 Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop--a
hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.
18 "Listen then to what the parable of
the sower means: 19 When anyone hears the message about the kingdom and does
not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in his
heart. This is the seed sown along the path. 20 The one who received the seed
that fell on rocky places is the man who hears the word and at once receives
it with joy. 21 But since he has no root, he lasts only a short time. When
trouble or persecution comes because of the word, he quickly falls away. 22
The one who received the seed that fell among the thorns is the man who hears
the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke
it, making it unfruitful. 23 But the one who received the seed that fell on
good soil is the man who hears the word and understands it. He produces a
crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown." (NIV)
The wicked Tenants (husbandmen)
Mk. 12: 1-11
12:1 And he began to speak unto them by parables. A certain man planted a
vineyard, and set an hedge about it, and digged a place for the winefat, and
built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into a far country.
2 And at the season he sent to the husbandmen a servant, that he might receive
from the husbandmen of the fruit of the vineyard. 3 And they caught him, and
beat him, and sent him away empty. 4 And again he sent unto them another servant;
and at him they cast stones, and wounded him in the head, and sent him away
shamefully handled. 5 And again he sent another; and him they killed, and
many others; beating some, and killing some. 6 Having yet therefore one son,
his wellbeloved, he sent him also last unto them, saying, They will reverence
my son. 7 But those husbandmen said among themselves, This is the heir; come,
let us kill him, and the inheritance shall be ours. 8 And they took him, and
killed him, and cast him out of the vineyard. 9 What shall therefore the lord
of the vineyard do? he will come and destroy the husbandmen, and will give
the vineyard unto others. 10 And have ye not read this scripture; The stone
which the builders rejected is become the head of the corner: 11 This was
the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes? (KJV)
12:1 And he began to speak unto them in parables. A man planted a vineyard, and set a hedge about it, and digged a pit for the winepress, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into another country. 12:2 And at the season he sent to the husbandmen a servant, that he might receive from the husbandmen of the fruits of the vineyard. 12:3 And they took him, and beat him, and sent him away empty. 12:4 And again he sent unto them another servant; and him they wounded in the head, and handled shamefully. 12:5 And he sent another; and him they killed: and many others; beating some, and killing some. 12:6 He had yet one, a beloved son: he sent him last unto them, saying, They will reverence my son. 12:7 But those husbandmen said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and the inheritance shall be ours. 12:8 And they took him, and killed him, and cast him forth out of the vineyard. 12:9 What therefore will the lord of the vineyard do? he will come and destroy the husbandmen, and will give the vineyard unto others. 12:10 Have ye not read even this scripture:The stone which the builders rejected, The same was made the head of the corner; 12:11 This was from the Lord, And it is marvellous in our eyes? (ASV)
12:1 He then began to speak to them in parables: "A man planted a vineyard. He put a wall around it, dug a pit for the winepress and built a watchtower. Then he rented the vineyard to some farmers and went away on a journey. 2 At harvest time he sent a servant to the tenants to collect from them some of the fruit of the vineyard. 3 But they seized him, beat him and sent him away empty-handed. 4 Then he sent another servant to them; they struck this man on the head and treated him shamefully. 5 He sent still another, and that one they killed. He sent many others; some of them they beat, others they killed. 6 "He had one left to send, a son, whom he loved. He sent him last of all, saying, 'They will respect my son.' 7 "But the tenants said to one another, 'This is the heir. Come, let's kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.' 8 So they took him and killed him, and threw him out of the vineyard. 9 "What then will the owner of the vineyard do? He will come and kill those tenants and give the vineyard to others. 10 Haven't you read this scripture: "'The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone; 11 the Lord has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes'?"
